Both the Hokkaido and Oregon special needs tiles installations and the professional pottery exhibitions at the Odori Museum in Sapporo and Asahikawa Design Gallery were tremendous accomplishments and a great success.
The installation of 500 tiles made by special needs children was moving and
impressive. Displayed in the Chikaho (Sapporo) Train Station — a vibrant location, full of activity — it attracted a lot of attention from the public. Many families of the special needs children came to see their own tiles in the large display. The ingenious display units that Hokkaido Pottery Society (HPS) constructed for the tiles were scaled so that wheelchairs could have perfect viewing access. The display and the beautifully detailed signage provided intimate, detailed information about the clay tile workshops and the hundreds of unique children who participated.
