Membership is open to all serious studio potters currently residing in Oregon and the counties of Pacific, Lewis, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark, Skamania and Klickitat in Southwest Washington, USA. There is no jurying for membership.
General meetings are held the second Friday of January, March, July, and November at the Multnomah Art Center, 7688 SW Capitol Hwy., Portland. A business meeting at 6:30 p.m. is followed by a program at 7:30 p.m. The September General meeting takes place at our annual picnic. Executive Board Officers and Program Coordinators meet 6 times a year on alternating months. All business and programs of the OPA are organized and run by members, and members are encouraged to actively participate.
OPA sponsors workshops that are available to members at discounted prices. It collects pottery donations year-round for Empty Bowls, a hunger relief program that raised over ten thousand dollars in 1997. OPA supports with optional donations the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF), a national organization providing funding for craftspeople who have been injured or otherwise suffered major losses, and Studio Potters Network, a national organization providing a grassroots network among studio potters and potters organizations.
OPA produces the annual Ceramic Showcase and Sale in the Spring of each year. Booth participants in Showcase must have been members of OPA for one full year and be listed on the previous year’s membership list printed in February. “However, all members are encouraged to participate in Showcase by exhibiting a piece in the Gallery. Memberships are due Jan 31 to be included on February’s list.
