    About the Event:
April 6th at the Multnomah Arts Center in SW Portland from 5-7 PM; all proceeds will go straight to our Emergency Food Box program, the largest food pantry on Portland's West Side and one that is entirely community-supported. Last year's Empty Bowls helped secure over 19,000 pounds of food for the Food Box, and with OPA’s help we can gather even more for food insecure community members in SW.

A little more background: Since 2007, the SW HOPE community food drive has aimed to combat the sharp decline in giving that occurs after the New Year. In partnership with 40+ local faith and community organizations, the annual campaign works to keep the spirit of generosity alive all year long by keeping the Neighborhood House Emergency Food Box Program shelves fully stocked.

Please join me in welcoming Visiting Artist Julia Haft-Candell to our community.  Julia is a ceramic and mixed-media artist from Los Angeles.  Her work uses abstracted forms to explore broad themes of mythology, infinity and our mortal existence.  Julia holds an MFA degree from UC San Diego, and recently had a solo show at the Parasch Heijnen Gallery in LA.  Her work is currently showing at the clay biennial Melting Point, at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles.

I hope many of you can come on Wednesday Feb. 7th for her workshop in the ceramics studio in the Frost Art Center on campus from 9:00 am – noon, or for her public lecture at 7:00 pm in the Penguin Union Building room 161.  Both events are free and open to the public.  Feel free to print and post the attached flyer for other to see.
