Artist Statement
I first discovered clay as a teenager, lucky enough to attend a high school that truly invested in the arts. I tried wood carving, painting, and sculpture, but clay is where I felt most at home. Years later, after dabbling in community college classes, I found a vintage Lockerbie kick wheel in 2022—and it reignited everything. A few months later, I joined a community studio here in Portland, where I now spend as much time as my schedule allows.
For me, clay is centering—both literally and figuratively. Having my hands in the earth while I feel the rhythm of the wheel is grounding in a way that contrasts beautifully with my work as an interior designer. In the studio, I get to create without boundaries, slow my overthinking, and be fully present.
My ceramics are an extension of my design philosophy: that we all need more handmade, local, and quiet moments in our lives. Whether it’s a piece of pottery or a custom drapery panel, I believe handmade work adds warmth and soul to our everyday surroundings. Clay has taught me patience, humility, and to embrace imperfection—to see beauty in the unexpected results that emerge from the kiln.
I’m endlessly inspired by Portland’s creative community. As a proud member of the Oregon Potters Association, I’m surrounded by makers who continually challenge and uplift one another. And as Vice-President of the Portland Interior Design Society, I love exploring how art and design intersect—how the objects we live with can shape how we feel.
My ever evolving small batch work reflects my love of texture, nature, and the imperfect beauty of the handmade. You can currently find my ceramics on display at Z Collection and Tempest Tile Room.
