Does it seem like every time you build taller then 9 inches your piece flops over? Well in this workshop I will go over how to build a solid foundation to support the weight of the piece. How to blend coils together to avoid cracking. Learn the timing of when it is best to add more coils to your piece. Tips on when it is time to finish the bottom part of your piece, while the upper part is still coming together. And I'll share key temperatures to be aware of when firing large, thick pieces.

You Will Learn:

  1.  Confidence to build bigger.
  2. Coiling technique for attaching and blending so there are no cracks.
  3. Safe firing schedule for bisque and glaze.

Materials Needed:

  • Sculpture clay, 100lbs or more
  • Thick board to hold the weight
  • Few sheets of newspaper
  • Towel for hands
  • Cleared area to roll 2ft coils
  • Fork
  • Spray bottle
  • Plastic bag
  • Notebook and pen
  • and most of all, your fingers!

The Zoom Demonstration will be recorded and sent out to all registrants if you want to attend but have a scheduling conflict during the live demonstration.

Since this is an online workshop, you will need to have a computer, tablet, or phone that can run video conferencing in a browser or app.
